On Sunday, April 24 2005 the city of Salzburg will see the second edition of the AMREF Marathon.
The organizers expect approximately 2,000 runners for marathon, half marathon, relay marathon and the Coca-Cola Kids Race. "On long terms we want to establish Salzburg as a marathon city" Mayor Heinz Schaden said. He is confident, the city with its beauties of a world cultural heritage will succeed despite large competition and Salzburg will become one of the most attractive marathon destinations. Runners tourism is getting more and more interesting for the citiies economy, said Schaden.
The Salzburg AMREF Marathon is more than a race, because it connects sports, culture and charity ideally. A part of the registration fees will be donated to the Charity Organisation AMREF (African Medical and Research Foundation inc. Flying Doctors).
Organizers of the big event are the agency SportImPuls Johannes Langer, ASV/ASKOe Salzburg and AMREF. The most substantial promoters of the events are the City Salzburg, Altstadt Salzburg Marketing and Salzburg Tourism.
