The AMREF organization received a check for 25,000 Euro. Including all side events, like the concert of two of Austria’s most popular acts, Wolfgang Ambros and Rainhard Fendrich, the 50,000 Euro mark was clearly broken. The money raised will be used for AMREF projects in Kenya. Dr. Walter Schmidjel, co-founder of this organization, praised the event, acknowledging its growing success and organizational improvement year after year.
The effort to support AMREF was increasingly important this year due to the unrest during the past few months in Kenya, also effecting tourism. Dr. Schmidjel emphasized that one of the main messages to promote is that Kenya is a safe place again and a wonderful country to visit. Continuing over the next three years, the cooperation between the Salzburg-Marathon and AMREF should guarantee a growth in participants and set new athletic records.
