Viola Bor sets course record at Salzburg AMREF Marathon
Defeating cold and rainy conditions, Bor set a course record of 2:39:34 to take a clear win. Ngelel finished in 2:20:30 for first place ahead of Austrian Karl Aumayer who set a personal best of 2:25:25.
Organisers were happy to welcome a record field of 4,719 runners from 45 nations, including participants at shorter distances. Some fine performances were displayed in the half marathon Mirach Gidena Gebremedhin of Ethiopia successfully defended his title in 1:04:39 while Kenyan Diana Chepkemoi was the female winner in 1:14:50.
Winners of the marathon and half marathon races participated as ambassadors of AMREF, a medical and research foundation headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, that works on better health care for people in Africa.
