A) Organizational information
1. Is there prize money and who will get it?
The following scale of prize money is valid for men and women by the Salzburg Marathon:
1st place € 800,–
2nd place € 400,–
3rd place € 250,–
The full prize money will be paid to runners placed on the marathon-podium by running a time before 2:20 hours (men) and 2:45 (women). Men and women finishing in first three places running times between 2:20 and 2:30 hours (men) and 2:45 and 2:55 hours (women) will get 80 per cent of the prize money. Men and women finishing on first three places running a time over 2:30 hours (men) and 2:55 hours (women) will get 60 per cent of the prize money.
2. Are there victory ceremonies for all classes?
There will be a ranking for all age categories in the result list, but no victory ceremonies.
3. Which “Extras” exist for the participants?
All finishers of the Marathon, the Half Marathon, the VW Porsche Alpenstraße 10-km-Race and the Bezirksblätter Relay Marathon receive a medal. All finishers of the Salzburg Marathon (42.195K) receive a personal diploma, which will be available online at www.pentek-timing.at. Additionally each runner gets a “Welcome Package”, no matter which competition he or she takes part in. Music and entertainment groups will support the runners and create a great atmosphere along the course for participants and fans alike.
4. When and where can I pick up my bib and chip?
Chip & bib pick-up and late registration – University Auditorium („Große Aula” – Max-Reinhardt-Platz – Entrance Furtwängler Garden):
- Friday May 4, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday May 5, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
5. Is there a possibility to engrave my name and/or time on my medal? How much does this service cost?
All finishers of the marathon, half-marathon, VW Porsche Alpenstraße 10-km-Race and Bezirksblätter relay marathon will get a medal. After finishing your race, you can personalize your medal with an engraving of your name and achieved time at the cost of 7 Euro for adults and 5 Euro for the participants of the Coca-Cola Junior-Marathon. You can order this service at the online registration or directly after your race. NOTE: The medal engraving service is only available at the required times (see schedule). Fees already paid are non-refundable!
6. How much is the participating cost per person for Salzburg Marathon?

7. Where can I find showers and dressing rooms?
- Gym Spielhalle Josef-Preis-Allee, Hellbrunner Straße 5. Location: You can find this Gym walking out of the city on the right side directly after passing the great rotary near the Justizbäude (court house). The entry is located after a bus stop. There you will find plates for your orientation.
- Gym Jahnturnhalle, Giselakai 21. Location: Cross the river Salzach by using the Mozartsteg (footbridge) to arrive on the right side of the river (downstream). The Gym is located directly in front of the bridge.
8. Where are the start and the finish lines located?
The start line for the Salzburg Marathon, Sparkasse Half Marathon and the Bezirksblätter Relay Marathon is located on Ferdinand-Hanusch-Platz. The VW Porsche Alpenstraße 10-km-Race will start in Leopoldskron near the Leopoldskroner Weiher (a beautiful lake). The “natürlich für uns” Race will start on Max-Reinhardt-Platz, exactly like the Coca-Cola Junior-Marathon one day before. The finish line for all races is located at Max-Reinhardt-Platz, as well.
9. Are there starting blocks?
For the first time, there will be four starting blocks (faster than 3 hours, between 3 and 3:40, between 3:40 and 4:20, slower than 4:20) at the starting area. We ask you to position yourself in the right place according to your performance level and your expected running pace.
10. What is the fastest way from bib pick up to the starting line?
The fastest way from bib pick up to the starting line for participants of Salzburg Marathon, Sparkasse Half Marathon and the starters of the Bezirksblätter Relay Marathon is to walk. Pass the “Festspielhaus” and the Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz to arrive at the Münzgasse, turn right and you arrive at the starting line. It’s a walk of approximately two minutes.
We offer a special service for participants of the VW Porsche Alpenstraße 10-km-Race and for the 2nd and 4th runner of Bezirksblätter Relay Marathon: the Shuttle-Runner. A Shuttle-Runner takes you to the start at Leopoldskron on Sunday morning. Please come to the meeting point at the „Pferdeschwemme“ on Karajanplatz at 07.45 a.m. Just follow the runner to get to the start in the most direct way, a distance of about 2.5K. By jogging at a very easy pace this will be a perfect warm-up for your race.
11. Where can I find starting lists and results?
We will hang the starting lists and results in the finish area. You can also ask at our information desk. Results will also be available even online as soon as possible. We can even send the results list to your address, it costs 4 Euro.
12. What does the track look like?
There are two 21,1 km laps to run at the Salzburg Marathon. The course has a maximum vertical drop of 10 metres. The course takes the participants out of the historical city to the south of Salzburg, passing by castles and beautiful lakes and nearly all off the sightseeing highlights of Mozarts baroque home town.
13. Is the entire track asphalt?
Most of the course is asphalt. Only a little part is not, but it has been prepared for the event. Our participants told us that the whole course – including the non-asphalt part – is pretty fast and very attractive, as it offers a new view on this wonderful city.

15. How does the timekeeping work?
PENTEK organizes the timing with the Champion-Chip. Participants who do not have a chip can obtain a white chip for € 10.00 when the bibs are handed out. Please keep the € 13.00 chip handy. The chip deposit (€ 10.00) will be refunded upon returning the chip after the race. Chips that are not returned will be deemed purchased but cannot be used any more.
The timekeeping systems will only read yellow and white ChampionChips. Chips in other colors cannot be used. Make sure the chips are correctly fastened to your running shoe (long center piece parallel to the running direction). No timekeeping without the timing chip! All runners need a chip! Pentek Timing will be responsible for the listings and the accuracy of the results.
16. Is there Pacemaker-service?
Yes, we offer such a service. There will be pacemaker for times under 3:15, 3:30, 3:45 and 4:00 hours.
17. Is it allowed to be accompanied by bicycle, dog or baby jogger?
Accompanying of runners by any kind of vehicle, bike, inline skate or the like is forbidden and leads to the disqualification of the runner!
18. Is there any possibility to store my bag or similar items?
Atrium of the University / arcaded sidewalk: Each bag must be marked with your personal bib number. Participants of the VW Porsche Alpenstraße 10-km-Race may deposit their clothing bags at the start in Leopoldskron in a special truck. PLEASE NOTE! Only official clothing bags – no sporting bags, backpacks or the like – will be accepted!
19. How long is the finish line open?
The finish area will be closed at 2:30 p.m – 5:30 hours after the marathon-start.
20. How will the handover in the Bezirksblätter relay marathon work?
The two handover stations are located in a) Kobergerweg (directly by the market garden Zmugg in Leopoldskron) and b) on the Universitätsplatz. The change happens with a handshake. The organizers have trust in you and your fairness. Lack of sportsmanship leads to disqualification of the whole relay team. Every runner must have a Chip, even the single time will be listed. We recommend runner no. 2 and 4 to follow our Shuttle-Runner. (See question 10)
21. Does the organizer provide a Salzburg Marathon T-Shirt?
Every participant gets a “Welcome Package” including a Salzburg Marathon T-Shirt. Participants of the Coca-Cola Junior-Marathon get a special Coca-Cola Junior-Marathon T-Shirt. You can buy a biological fair-trade T-Shirt instead of the traditional Salzburg Marathon T-Shirt. You will find a voucher that allows you to get it even cheaper.
22. Will a runner declared as a marathon runner appear in the Half Marathon list if he finishes after 21,1 kilometres?
Yes, he will appear in the list of the Sparkasse Half Marathon. It’s not necessary to re-registration.
23. Is there a minimum age for Marathon and Half Marathon?
Yes, there is a minimum age. Participants of the Marathon 2012 have to be born before 31.12.1992. Starters of the Half Marathon have to be born before 31.12.1996, as described in the guidelines of the IAAF.
24. Which food will there be provided for participants?.
We use only biological food that derives from regional cultivation. If this is not possible (for example bananas) we use biological fair-trade products
25. Personal refreshments?
Yes, there is a possibility for personal refreshments. Please drop your personal refreshments clearly labelled with the refreshment point where it should be taken to on Saturday (until 6:00 p.m.) and on Sunday (until 7:45 a.m.) at the information point.
26. What medical services are available at this event?
There is a full medicinal supply at the finishing area including medical, ambulance men and masseurs. Mobile medical station will be found at several points of the track. There are refreshment points at approximately every 5K along the course. Additionally there will be refreshments at the finish area (Powerade, Water, Fruits, Cake).
B) Registration
27. When does the registration period end?
We will announce the registration dates for 2012 as soon as possible.
28. Is it possible to re-register?
Please take care to complete your registration in its entirety. Changes or addition of your registration leads to a charge of 5 Euro. In case of a double registration there will be allocated a charge of 5 Euro by the refund. Bank charges, which happened because of incorrect, incomplete or unreadable declaration, will be allocated to the causer.
29. What happens if I’m registered but I cannot start?
Registered participates who do not start are not eligible for a refund. We recommend the conclusion of the insurance, which is possible during the online-registration.
C) Coca-Cola Junior-Marathon
30. Are there special notes for children and teenagers?
It’s useful to write the phone-number of a parent and the name and address of the child on the back of the bib.
31. Does the chip used during the Coca-Cola Junior-Marathon have to be returned? Where can I do this?
Yes, the chip has to be returned – otherwise you have to pay € 30,–! Our staff members will help you to remove the chip from the shoe. Please bring the chip to our information desk!
32. How are children separated into groups? (Age or year of birth)
The Kids are separated in groups regarding their year of birth.
33. When will the single groups start?
The groups will start from young to “old” beginning with the U8 category at 5:15 p.m.
34. Can the Coca-Cola Junior-Marathon participants have their medals engraved as well?
Yes. See answer no. 5 for further information regarding the medal engraving service!
D) General information
35. What is the best way to arrive to the Salzburg Marathon?
We suggest arriving by public means of transport.
By car: Take the exit Flughafen (airport) on the Autobahn A1. Drive on the Innsbrucker Bundesstraße until you arrive to the crossroad. Turn right and stay on the Maxglaner Hauptstraße until you arrive to the Altstadtgarage. If you arrive on the Autobahn A10 take the exit Salzburg Süd (Salzburg south). Drive on the Alpenstraße until you arrive to the Park&Ride. There you can take the Bus that brings you to the centre. Attention: There is a special bus plan on Sunday caused by the Salzburg Marathon. You will find further information approximately one week before the event on our homepage.
36. Where can I park my car?
In the Altstadtgarage (a basement garage next to the Neutor) are approximately 1.300 parking spaces available for you. The garage is opened 24 hours a day and you will find a voucher in your Start packages. They can be validated by the employees of the garage only – it will not work with automates. With the voucher you pay € 4,– for 4 hours or € 6,– for 8 hours.
37. What accommodations can I find in Salzburg during the event?

38. Where is the closest bike rental agency?
Topbike is located on the left side of the river Salzach between Staatsbrücke and Ferdinand-Hanusch-Platz.
